What to expect in my Vocal Lessons
************************************************* Singing Syllabus 2025 ************************************************** Name: Jordyn C. || Location: Bakersfield, CA || Skills/Focus: Vocals / Song-Writing || Genre: Christian & Gospel Music || Hobbies: Worshipping, spending time with my husband, and taking care of our adorable kitty cats. || Longer introduction: Hello! My name is Jordyn, and I will be your music coach (for vocals / song-writing). Parents / families / adult clients, feel free to reach out to me through phone call, text, or email (My preferred route of messaging is phone calls. If I cannot be reached, please leave a voicemail and I will plan to get back to you as soon as possible.) So, more about myself, I have a background of music in my schooling, with being in a range of choirs, being a percussionist, and participating in musical arts in my schooling years (San Lauren Elementary, Beardsley Junior High, North High School, and Bakersfield College). I personally did not know how to sing as a child, but in all honesty with the help of the Lord, I can hold a tune now and sing way more than what I anticipated as a child. Also, vocally as a youngster, I (as my lovely family member relayed to me) was that I sounded like a "wounded animal..." And it was true; nonetheless, I unintentionally, through fun and pure joy of singing, poured countless hours into learning a craft that I didn’t know could be used in so many good ways later on in my years of singing. I had a vocal coach personally share with me that it is possible for a "non-singer," for lack of better words, learn and grow in their signing career as a vocalist. I've seen it to be true through my own life, and heard of it through others. My goal is to honor the best in what I have been taught (Examples would include: keeping things basic and to the point, doing the challenging stuff, and having fun altogether). I desire to start wherever my student is in their vocal journey, and add any skill that I could bring to my students' learning process of growing in this specific talent or upcoming talent of theirs. I believe, that what the student obtains already in their foreknowledge or upbringing in music should be helped in any sense to flourish and continue forward in their music endeavors. I do have a firm belief, that any of my students will be able to excel beyond what I will share with them, if they are willing to learn and put the effort in towards their own goals regarding becoming a successful vocalist. My specialty is in worship leading, for about 10 years I’ve gotten blessed with the opportunity to gain experience in that area in the church (Valley Baptist, Canyon Hills, GODWorthy Worship Center, and a few other churches I have been able to attend and sing at.) So I would be honored to incorporate that mentality of singing these praise songs into my lesson(s) that we would go through. Such as, we are singing not just any other song, but we are singing a song to God himself and how that could include a heart that is ready to give him their best and simply sing from that place (whether good or bad sounding) that’s beautiful enough, because all the techniques can be worked out. I’m excited to get started in this process with you guys overall, and to be a part of this learning journey! || My Lesson Focuses: Christian and Gospel Music-How each of my lessons will be crafted for the individual students will include this style of music about God. Every warmup may vary in instrumentation of how it’s made or already put together, but everything should always have some tie to worship. Meaning, a connection to how to apply what we will be studying to using that on the platform of these specific songs in Christian and gospel worship music. [My examples of possible song choices may include: “No Weapon-Fred Hammond,” “This Is How I Fight My Battles-Smith,” “Jesus Loves Me-Warner & Bradbury” ... warmups include: acapella styled songs, YouTube instrumentals like piano/guitar/pad backgrounds, or me playing guitar to the students vocal warmup(s)] || In lessons we will be focusing on the body, meaning, #1. how we carry our vocal instruments, #2. how to breathe while singing, #3. the structure of the throat and voice itself, #4. and getting into chest/middle/head voice techniques and practices. [How this would play out in lessons, are in these examples-Maintaining a good posture for vocal instrument, ... breath holding exercises “20 for 20”-interval breathing, up to 20 seconds, ... “Book Time”-laying on your back, and placing a book on your diaphragm to help build strength, ... “Straws”-humming a song straight through a straw, doing “20 for 20” using a straw, and more similar exercises. ... “Throat and Voice 101”-studying what the throat looks like on the inside, how to care for it through different singing techniques, and how to prepare your instrument for performances or vocal sessions. ... “C.M.H.V.E. (Chest/Middle/Head Voice Exercises)”-these exercises include going through physical warmups acapella styled that focus on either chest, middle, or head voice. *VERY IMPORANT NOTE* Lessons will be as relaxed or intensive as the parent / student / adult client has communicated to me that they desire. Helpful information: Every lesson will have something arranged beforehand. Also, not every lesson will have to be the same, if already agreed to a set of lessons for an arranged amount of time. What I mean is, the student is excelling quicker than anticipated, or the lesson material needs to be modified, and there is an overall desire for a shift in lesson material (lesson shifts include, making it easier or more difficult)... If my parents / families / adult clients see that lessons need to be altered due to any of these reasons or more, that is not mentioned, then just reach out to me (call/text/email), and changes to future lesson materials will be adjusted accordingly. Just give me a 2 days notice, and the changes can begin for that process. (Example: You let me know Monday, and I’ll have the lesson(s) prepared by Wednesday, for us to get started with). *If lessons, need to be altered sooner, just let me know as soon as possible, and I can begin the process in switching up the lessons as necessary. || Thank you for reading this syllabus, I hope you all have a wonderful day.-Sincerely, Jordyn C. :)
